Custom Pet Portraits

I specialize in vibrant mixed-media “Paw-traits” of animals.
All that is needed to get started on your custom artwork is at a good photograph(s) that clearly show(s) your pets features. (You can find more info on what type of photos I am looking for below under "photographs.")
Submit your order through my contact section or via e-mail to: [email protected].
For a more detailed explanation of my process, please see below!

The Process

  • You submit your order through this website form, via e-mail: [email protected] or through social media. Let me know what size and if you have a prefernce for medium.
  • Send your photos  to me via social media or e-mail ([email protected])
  • A 50% deposit (non-refundable) is required to reserve your spot in my queue. I will contact you via email after you submit your order form.
  • I will tell you an estimate as to when I can start your portrait. If you are hoping to have it sooner than my estimate, rush fees may apply.
  • I typically paint the background first, so if you have any color choices/background instructions, please provide those up front.
  • As I work on your order, I will send you "progress" photos of your painting to get any feedback you may have.
  • Once you are 100% happy with the finished painting the remainging balance is will be due.
  • If you are local to the Sacramento region, pick-up can be arranged. If you are not local, I will package your painting and ship it via tUSPS. I use Priority Mail, which includes tracking and insurance to the total value. You will receive an email from me when it has been shipped, with its tracking number
  • Please let me know once your painting has been delivered safely! If possible, take a photograph of your pet(s) with his or her painting as I love to share these photos on my social media!

Caring for Your Art

  • If possible, keep your painting out of direct sunlight, Paints with red pigment have the potential to fade and be bleached by the sun. If framing, I recommend glass with UV protection.
  • Paintings on Paper: be careful not to bend or scratch. I recommend framing with UV glass, a mat, and having the back of the frame sealed to protect from dust.
  • Paintings on Canvas: Watch the corners of your painting. These areas are the most susceptible to damage. If the painting collects dust, use a soft-bristled brush on the surface. Other brushes may leave behind particles or scratch the surface.

Styles and Mediums

  • Mixed Media Combo of: Oil Pastel, PrismaColor Pencil, Watercolor and/or Acrylic on Paper
  • Acrylic Paint on Stretched Canvas
  • Watercoolor on Cold Press Paper
  • Torn Colored Paper Collage on Stretched Canvas
  • Acrylic on Wood Slice Ornament

Selecting Your Photo(s)

I prefer high-resolution digital photos taken in natural lighting. Indoor lighting can cast a yellow hue. Natural lighting lets me best see the color of the pets fur and features so that I may paint him/her as accurately as possible. However, if your favorite photo of your pet is indoors, please send it and we will make it work. I'd love to receive more than one photo of the pet so that I have some additional reference points for coloring.

I understand that some of the animals have crossed the Rainbow Bridge and that may limit our options; I will work with what you have as best as I can! If photos are hard-copy they can be mailed to me and will be returned to you with the portrait.

I usually will omit the background setting and objects from the photos you send and only include the animal in your painting so do not worry about any of that! If there is a particular feature, location or favorite toy you'd like included, please let me know.

Depending on the size of the canvas and the size of your dog I may or may not be including more than his or her head. Please consider whether you would like me to paint just the head and shoulders or include the entire body and if you have a preference, please let me know.

I am able to combine photos of pets to include them into one painting, as long as the photos of them are taken from similar angles/distance. I'd also like to receive additional photos of them together, for reference, if possible.

E-mail photos to: [email protected]
